Starting out...

I hadn't had time to try my bike with panniers before leaving Canada. In fact, I hadn't even had time to ride more than a few miles in the preceding months.

So - jet-lagged, unfit and unused to the heat - it was going to be a quick introduction to life on the road.

From my journal:

...armed with confusing and conflicting directions, I set off around 8:00.

Expecting the worst, I was pleasantly surprised to find myself making the correct turns and on the road out of Bombay...

...the bike is very different with those heavy bags on the front, but manageable...
